Van drivers keen not to make a van insurance claim may do well to listen to the advice of Oxfordshire police. The warning comes after a spate of thefts form vans and commercial vehicles whilst they have been left unattended, this advice from the Oxfordshire police echoes a situation being felt by commercial van drivers across the UK.
Detective Sergeant Matt Jarman stated: "Most ... [of these] criminals are opportunists and are unlikely to break into an empty vehicle." Items stolen during the recent incidents include a disabled badge, laptop, stereo, satnav and hair straighteners. Motorists were advised parking in well lit areas was another way they could reduce their chances of being targeted.
For many van drivers it tools tend to be kept in vans overnight with many thieves being opportunists they will realize that there is more than likely going to be some item of value in a commercial van, so it really is down to the owner to take steps to avoid being targeted by opportunist thieves.
