A new report conducted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has warned companies, which rely on young drivers to make sure that they are adequately prepared for all conditions that they will face on the roads.
According to the research many companies that operate fleets of vans and trucks feel that their young employees are unprepared for night driving and icy weather despite having passed the conventional driving test.
According to ROSPA, companies should seriously consider giving all young employees extra driving training, which could well dramatically decrease van insurance claims.
“The current system of learner driver training and the driving test does not cover all of the situations in which young drivers will find themselves when driving for work, or all of the skills they will need for driving for work,” said the report.
60% of companies surveyed felt the current driving test needed to be beefed up to deal with all eventualities.
