It has been suggested that bosses who encourage their drivers to stay focused on the road could reduce the number of van insurance claims their companies have to make. In addition, they can also help reduce work accidents.
According to the road safety organisation Brake, employers have the obligation to help keep workers safe behind the wheel. In an attempt to tackle the problem of work-related collisions, the group has launched its Stay On Track programme.
This initiative is intended to help firms decrease the number of distractions faced by employees while on the road. An event being held on March18th will give employers more information on the scheme.
Brake's spokeswoman Roz Cumming said: "It is all too tempting for drivers to let their mind wander from their driving - yet in a split second their distraction can cause death."
Companies who cut the number of accidents drivers are involved in may see the cost of their van insurance drop.
