More holidaymakers could plan foreign vacations without taking out adequate travel insurance following the proposed Equality Bill.
The Association of British Insurers recently claimed that the bill unveiled in the Queen’s Speech last December could cause premiums to rise for travellers of all ages.
A report by recent by the ABI shows that 98 per cent of older customers can access travel insurance, equally suggesting that the Equality Bill is unfair and uncalled for.
Industry insiders are now concerned that the Bill could impact negatively on travel insurance market. Under the proposed legislation, insurance providers will no longer be allowed to use age as grounds for discrimination.
Insurance company AllClear echoed the sentiments of other industry stakeholders suggesting that an increase in costs will lead to more people going on holiday without any travel insurance cover.
It is believed that the many travellers could be forced to depend on their European Health Insurance Card for medical cover.
Insurer AllClear’s head of product development Chris Blackman was quoted saying: “With the recession biting, many people will have a limited budget for their holiday and a hike in the price of insurance could mean they decide to take a flyer and go without any cover at all.”
