Britons who are thinking of travelling in the next few days have been warned to contact their travel insurer before setting out due to the recent snap of cold weather.
There were severe delays and cancellations across the British transport systems after unusual levels of snowfall across the country. Train and bus companies were advising passengers that customers should put off any except the most urgent journeys.
This chaos was replicated at the airports, with over 650 flights cancelled at Heathrow alone.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) highlighted the importance of checking your individual policy to see if you are covered by any substantial delays or cancellations to your flight. The AB noted that the time that passengers are delayed before receiving compensation would usually be around 8 to 12 hours.
“The policy will then pay a cash amount, typically of around £50 for each subsequent eight or 12 hour delay, up to a maximum limit,” said an ABI spokesman.
