Home insurance customers have been warned to pay extra vigilance to their garden equipment as the summer months approach.
Esure has warned the public to have extra vigilance regarding their garden security as the weather gets warmer and people are spending more time outside. Expensive gardening equipment has always been a desirable target for thieves and the company has issued a reminder that it is important to lock tools away after use to avoid theft or damage. A recent survey revealed that up to 93% of Brits leave gardening equipment outside and unsecured overnight.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at Esure home insurance, remarked: “Brits may spend a great deal of time, money and effort on making their gardens attractive but they also need to think about security too. Taking a few simple steps can reduce the chances of becoming a victim of garden crime - such as the use of security lighting or prickly hedging as deterrents.”
