Police cracking down on bogus callers in West Yorkshire have received support from school children in the area in a move that is aimed at reducing the number of home insurance claims.
According to police, Pupils at Flockton First School in the Huddersfield district worked alongside officers to produce an assembly advising locals to treat strangers who turn up on their doorsteps with caution.
This follows a number of incidents in the village reported to the police involving suspected thieves who posed as officials.
Commenting on the assembly, police community support officer Judith Brimicombe said: “The children were great and did little scenarios showing how to and how not to answer the door to someone they don't know.”
At the same time the school children also produced a leaflet and designed their own logo to complement the campaign. Earlier this month, West Yorkshire police posted an appeal for witnesses to a burglary in Bradford, where three suspects posed as officials.
Industry sources say that home insurance remains one of the most important insurance for households. However, according to market experts, it is wrong to choose a home insurance policy based on price, rather than level of cover.
Homeowners are warned that cheap policies could leave homes underinsured and end up proving more costly in the long-run.
