It has been revealed that two young men have been jailed for murder, all because of a £15 debt.
The two men, aged 19 and 20, have been found guilty of starting a fire that killed a 17-year-old girl and her grandmother in London. They have therefore been jailed for life, with a minimum sentence of 25 years.
Both victims were sleeping, when the two men poured petrol through the letterbox of their flat, which then set alight, in Mile End, in February.
It is thought that the murder happened because of an argument over £15 debt with the victim’s grandson.
Reports state that one of the murderers shouted “we are going to burn your house down.” He carried out the threat, but the grandson was not at home during the fire. Both females died from smoke inhalation.
The 17-year-old’s mother commented that she: “was determined, hard-working, independent and caring, and I know she would have grown into a well-rounded young woman.
“I would have loved to have seen my daughter get married and have children of her own. My chance to become a grandmother has been taken away from me.”
Her mother, she added, was a “true cockney lady” and “the life and soul of all our family”.
