Debt - Personal debt in UK 'worst' in Europe - 07/12/2007
The total figure for personal debt in Britain in June of this year was £1,355 billion with the growth rate rising to 10.1 per cent for the previous 12 months, suggesting that rates will not slow any time soon.

The average household debt in the UK is £56,000 excluding mortgages. According to national figures, the UK is now responsible for a third of all unsecured debt in Western Europe, yet there is much that homeowners and the average person can do to reverse this trend.

Consumers can make sure that if they are to enter into a credit card agreement they should either only use the card for emergencies or pay off the debt as quickly as possible and stay on top of monthly statements like a hawk.

For homeowners, shopping around for insurance is the best way to find out all there is to know about the ins and outs of one insurer over the other and what policies offer hidden benefits or sneaky tricks.
