Credit Cards - Stamping out debt during the postal strikes - 19/10/2009

Credit card consumers have been advised to ensure that they will not be hit with late payment fines for credit cards, utility bills or other financial commitments paid via mail, during the postal strike.

With postal strikes sweeping the nation, customers have been urged to take steps to avoid being hit by late payment charges for credit cards.

The Communication Workers’ Union stated that strikes plan to take place during Thursday October 22nd and Friday October 23rd.

As a result, people have been advised to explore other payment options, such as over the phone or via debit card online, so they are not punished with late payment fines.

Paul Smee, chief executive of the Payments Council, commented: “It's worth taking five minutes to work out what bills, invoices or cheques you might be expecting in the post and to consider whether you want to take any action to make alternative arrangements for any of them.”
