New research from Co-operative bank credit cards shows Brit’s will spend more than £549,000 on Saturday purchases during their life time.
Interestingly the research showed the most money was spent on shoes closely followed by clothes. An industry official commented we live in a world where credit card debt is on the increase and a big reason for this is people want what their friends have this includes clothes, shoes and electronic items. If we fail to stop this copycat spending the debt situation in the UK will get much worse.
The research discovered workers and students were treating themselves at weekends, shelling out cash on food, drink, travel, clothes and entertainment. On average each person surveyed spent £175 on these purchases.
Maxine Xodo, product manager for The Co-operative Bank Credit Cards, commented: "As a nation we work some of the longest hours in Europe and many people live for the weekend, with Saturday being the one-day where people feel they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves."
Even though it is important to de-stress at the end of a busy week it is also vital to do so within your financial limits, if you keep putting purchases on credit cards you could end up paying back a great deal more than you originally spent.
