Post Office points out overseas card charges - 11/12/2007

The 2.4 million Britons planning to spend Christmas abroad risk being hit with commission charges when they use their credit cards, the Post Office warned today.
Some credit card providers charge an extra 2.75 per cent for every overseas transaction - with many users unaware of the extra cost.
Post Office research shows that almost half (49 per cent) of those going abroad this Christmas plan to use their credit card.
Director of lending at the Post Office Gary Fitton said: "For many people, going abroad for Christmas is a great way to relax and not have to worry about cooking Christmas dinner
many people could be returning from their Christmas break with a lot more than just memories and mementoes due to hidden card charges."
He added: Regardless of where people are traveling to this Christmas we are urging holidaymakers to ensure the only baggage they return with is the luggage they are carrying and not unnecessary card charges.
The most popular destination for Britains going overseas this month is Spain, with 17 per cent of the travellers making the journey.
France and Italy, the destinations of six per cent and five per cent of travellers respectively, also seem set to prove popular.
