Drivers have been warned against bright money saving schemes, as it could risk an increase in car insurance premiums.
Kwik Fit have noticed that many motorists indulge in a practice known as eco-coasting which is when the vehicle owner places the car in neutral when travelling downhill.
The figures show as much as 15 per cent of drivers have admitted at one time or another doing this manoeuvre but dissenting voices state that the potential for picking up speed during this period could result in a rear end collision.
Customer services director at Kwik-Fit David White commented: "The associated dangers make it a money-saving step too far."
