The numbers of claims that are taken out by motorists were found to be at their highest, during colder weather. The car insurance provider, Esure stated that the day just before the end of the winter season, claims would be at their highest levels.
The firm stated that claims were the highest during winter, than at any other times during the year due to the longer nights, causing thefts and darker roads to increase the number of claims. According to statistics, January 18th was the busiest day for claims while December 12th was found to be the second busiest day.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "Winter is a notoriously bad time for motorists with January the most treacherous month for drivers. Motorists should take extra care, adapt their driving style according to the road and weather conditions, and allow extra time for each journey.
He added: "Any claim - whether you're at fault or not - will affect your car insurance premium, so at a time when purse-strings are tight, safeguarding your precious no-claim discount is crucial."
Further research from the firm found that around six million drivers, have been involved in a road accident, due to slippery roads.
