A former police officer with Camden City, New Jersey has been jailed for insurance fraud after he lied to an insurer that he was using his vans for private purposes.
Darryl Miller, according to a report, had fraudulently obtained the van insurance on the vehicles used for commercial purposes at a significantly lower price.
Vehicle registration forms filed with the Motor Vehicle Commission, added the report, falsely pointed out that the vans were only used for personal transportation.
And that the claims were made regarding at least for vans that were used commercially by a company he is a co-owner.
By this action, the court ruled, he saved nearly $9,000 (about £6,497) per vehicle annually.
This also means he has defrauded New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co. of the amount by falsifying application and renewal forms for the policies.
Against this background, the court ordered Miller, a veteran of 22 years, to serve one year probation and forfeit his job.
He was also permanently barred from holding public employment in New Jersey.
