The importance of van insurance has been highlighted by UK police after a spate of thefts has occurred in the Wigan area.
Police have warned drivers to make sure they have an adequate insurance policy and to stay vigilant after the thefts, thought to be targeting satnav systems. In the past week alone, seven devices have been stolen from the area and police have warned van drivers against leaving valuables in their vehicles. Inspector Peter Clarke, of the Pemberton neighbourhood policing team, added: "Motorists should also remove the satnav cradle and make sure they wipe away any suction marks left on the windscreen or dashboard."
Passers-by have been advised to look out for any suspicious activity and contact the police if they suspect foul play. Drivers have also been told to write their postcode and their vehicle registration number on anything they keep in their vehicle.
The Crewe and Nantwich Guardian recently reported that a local man had been jailed for stealing around 50 satnavs.
