In a bid to end ambiguous price tags for travel fairs, lawmakers are cracking down on the way travel companies advertise their products. Many ‘cheap flights’ and ‘bargain get-a-ways’ must now give a fair picture of the added costs that might apply to a consumers’ dream holiday. Packages must detail extras such as airport taxes, surcharge, fees and other additional charges.
It has also come into effect that individuals will have to opt-in to travel insurance rather than it being inclusive or some thing that you previously had to opt-out of. This also allows the individual to purchase their own independent travel insurance or simply choose from the many insurance packages that are offered from the travel provider.
This has, however, had a negative effect on those travel providers that offer dirt-cheap packages and budget get-a-ways. They will no longer be able to advertise holidays without all the added on extras readily available.
These changes have already become common practice but will be in force from next year.
