Customers have been advised to always seek malaria advice before going on holiday to exotic countries.
NHS Direct has stated that little is known about the disease within the general UK population and so holidaymakers should swot up in order to avoid a nasty surprise. Although malaria is found in tropical countries, it can be contracted in other not so sunny areas.
By taking the necessary precautions Britons can save money on their travel insurance by avoiding costly medical bills. The usual effective course for avoiding catching malaria involves partaking in a couple of injections from your local GP.
Speaking on behalf of the NHS Direct, Jacqui Jedrzejewski remarked: "Malaria is a serious illness, particularly for pregnant women, and can result in severe illness or death. Both the mother and unborn baby can be affected."
