It has been suggested that many individuals, who travel by themselves could be taking out the wrong type travel insurance; which can leave them in the face of dangerous circumstances if they are in need of medical assistance or if problems with their flights occur.
Edward Dutton a Spokesperson for AXA, suggested that backpackers and holiday makers who are planning their trips abroad without a travel agent, can benefit from special insurance products. He also stated that some standard travel insurance policies may not meet all the needs that an independent traveller may have.
He said: "In 2006, 21 million travel policies were taken out - if over half of these are not meeting potential requirements then this is something consumers need to be aware of."
He added: "We hope that over the coming weeks people will look carefully at what they really need and make sure they get the right cover for their holiday."
In conclusion, Mr Dutton mentioned that travel insurance was a necessity, for independent travellers, to provide cover in the event, of a flight being cancelled or delayed or if a connection flight is missed.
