Travel insurance firm Saga have revealed that although hard to find, travel insurance can still be got for over-65s.
New research has suggested that age should not be a factor when searching for insurance as anyone can be covered if you are prepared to put the leg work in. This contradicts previosstatistics released from charity Age Concern which showed just eight per cent of the UK's travel insurance providers do not enforce upper age limits.
Paul Green, head of Saga Group Communications, added: "As the population ages and remains healthier for longer we would expect the general insurers to increase their age limits.''
"This is also because insurers now have a better understanding and improved systems; they are more sophisticated on how they rate older ages and include cover for pre-existing conditions."
Mr Green added that the oldest person he knew of who had managed to find travel insurance "was a lady celebrating her 100th birthday".
