A major travel insurance firm has released advice for holidaymakers on how to make efficient and swift travel insurance claims this summer should their trips not run according to plan.
Tesco Travel Insurance has stated that medical treatment, baggage loss and cancellations were among the top three claims for holidaymakers in 2007, accounting for 90 percent of all payouts.
The insurer recommends that holidaymakers report any stolen luggage immediately to authorities in order to receive their entitled compensation. Likewise, travellers are advised to seek written confirmation of any time delay from the firm responsible which should include accurate details regarding the circumstances and duration of the delay.
Anyone unfortunate enough to require medical treatment whilst abroad should contact their insurer immediately if the injury or illness is serious. It is recommended that minor hospital treatment should be paid for by the policy holder, upon which they can seek reimbursement from their insurer on their return home by submitting documents or receipts.
“At this time of year, when people are looking forward to their hard earned break, it’s more important than ever to reduce the chances of an unforeseen event spoiling your holiday,” said Jim Bruce of Tesco Travel Insurance.
“Ensuring you have adequate travel insurance is the first step and knowing what to do in the event of a mishap is essential too.”
