M&S has revamped its travel insurance coverage to include independent travellers. The new conditions stipulate that individuals who forgo using tour companies for vacation planning will still be covered in the event of flight cancelation, for example.
"We work hard to cater for the changing needs of our customers and it has become increasingly clear that traditional insurance policies, developed with the package holiday in mind, need to move with the times and cover the increasing variety of eventualities faced by the modern traveller," M&S Money chief executive, Brendan Cook, has said in recent reports.
Available to customers as an extra with single trip travel insurance, the independent traveller cover is also standard with M&S annual multi-trip insurance.
Easier Finance reported that British travellers planned and purchased more than 70 million trips overseas last year, and that 50 per cent of UK travellers book their trips independent of travel agencies. The report also indicated that almost half of all travel insurance customers are unaware of the details of their coverage products.
The new conditions offered by M&S mean that independent holiday planners can feel confident in avoiding full holiday packages and travel agency commission fees, while still exercising helpful options for coverage in the event of flight or accommodation glitches when they travel.
