Hundreds of thousands of Britons heading off to music festivals this summer have been reminded to take out travel insurance. This is to ensure adequate protection for their possessions, from the risk of theft and damage, as well as their personal safety.
Moneysupermarket.com’s Peter Gerrard said festival-goers should use lockers and safes, where they are available, and avoid leaving expensive items in tents.
Clams may be rejected if they fail to use security facilities and they end up losing items through carelessness, he pointed out.
“You won’t be covered if you are just leaving them lying around, say, in your tent or your shared room. If you just leave them lying around then you are seen to be being negligible,” he explained.
Such festivals as Spain’s Benicassim, coming up in July, and Exit event in Siberia are due to hold this year.
In a separate development, travel social network, WAYN, has announced that it will be selling it travel insurance product through Moneysupermarket.com.
It began offering its 1.9 million UK members travel insurance last month, via a tie-up with Mondial Assistance.
Members with VIP access to the site, which allows them to gain access to extra features and free SMS, were given the travel insurance product for free, while other WAYN members could buy from the site. But the offer is now being made through the comparisons site.
Director of business development, Matt Jerwood said: “As well as providing travel tips and forums for exchanging travel advice, we want to offer great services and encourage responsible travelling.”
