Tesco travel insurance has performed a u-turn on the case of an 83-year-old woman who faced her insurance claim being denied, following a newspaper enquiry.
Hazel Heron, of Camborne, Cornwall, fell ill with a stomach bug while visiting her daughter in Canada.
Subsequently, the Daily Mirror reports, she was forced to cancel a separate cruise holiday.
Having already taken out a £435 travel insurance policy with Tesco, Ms Heron expected to be covered.
However, she was told by the travel insurance provider that her claim - for £915 compensation - had been rejected, because she recuperated with her daughter while still in Canada rather than returning straight home.
Now, the Daily Mirror says that Tesco have paid up for the case, following an enquiry.
"We regret not handling this claim as sympathetically as we should have. There are circumstances which should have been taken into account," Tesco travel insurance told the newspaper.
