Annual travel insurance on the up - 17/09/2007
|
Increasing numbers of Britons are going on short breaks throughout the year, making taking out annual travel insurance more and more popular.
This is the claim made today by travel insurance provider Halifax, who say that they have detected "a trend" in the weekend holidays, fuelled by the recent proliferation of low cost airlines.
Taking out annual travel insurance cover therefore becomes more economical for consumers, when compared with taking out separate cover for each trip.
Spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance David Bruce said: "More and more people are taking more than the traditional one summer holiday a year so it makes more sense to have annual cover.
"There is a trend towards more short breaks rather than one long summer holiday."
The broadening of horizons in the UK that has come with the increasing numbers of holidays taken has been matched with the sheer range of options which consumers are faced with when taking out travel insurance.
Banks, insurance brokers and tour operators have now been joined by credit card providers and retailers in offering the service.
