Travel insurance premiums rely on how expensive medical care is at each destination, Halifax said this week. With this in mind, trips to places such as the USA and Australia see higher travel insurance premiums, according to a spokesperson for the insurance provider.
"It differs between Europe and the United States because the medical fees are much more expensive there than they are in Europe," David Bruce said.
Other factors which affect premiums are "where you're travelling to" and "how old you are" he added.
The cheapest premiums from Halifax Travel Insurance, Mr Bruce said, come in at around £30 - in which case "you're likely to be a single person, under the age of 30, travelling around Europe".
Mr Bruce also provided an insight into the most popular current methods of taking out travel insurance, with annual policies termed "very popular".
"The annual policies are sometimes even cheaper than the single trip policies," he said. "We also do a world explorer which is for trips up to 180 days."
