Majority of business travellers drive to work - 12/11/2007

The majority of British business travellers who must commute across the UK said that they prefer driving over taking public transport, research published today has shown.
Despite problems such as traffic congestion that causes the average business traveller to waste eleven days a year stuck in traffic, drivers still said the car was the number one way to travel to and from business appointments.
While the figures also showed that small-to-medium businesses (SMEs) were open to changes in the way they handle business travel, previous car insurance research showed that people who used their own cars for business purposes were often not insured properly.
With 94 per cent of SMEs using the road for their business travel, those who travel regularly for business should be sure that they are insured properly whether they are using a company car or their own vehicle.
The RAC Foundation and the British Chambers of Commerce recommended that businesses should develop business travel policies where employees would receive incentives for implementing safer road practices such as choosing low emissions vehicles.
