Women 'let men take control in home-buying' - 04/02/2008

The 'glass ceiling' still appears to exist when it comes to moving home, new research from interest only mortgage provider Halifax shows.
According to a poll from the mortgage firm, 48 per cent of men with a partner or spouse manage the finances for a home move - compared with just 34 per cent of women.
Greater equality was found, however, in deciding when and where to move - with 65 per cent of couples terming it a joint decision.
Gordon Edwards, managing director at Halifax Estate Agents, commented: "Buying a house is the biggest purchase most of us are likely to make.
"If you are deciding to sell your home, purchase a new property or sorting the finances for a move, it's important to involve your partner in the decision-making process."
Halifax also found that older couples are less likely to make a joint decision on moving home - with just 58 per cent of over-65s doing so.
This figure rises to 69 per cent among under-35s.
