95% of mortgage buyers use web - 08/01/2008

Just five per cent of people seeking out a mortgage will not use the internet at some stage of the process, the Yorkshire Building Society said yesterday.
What's more, 79 per cent of those polled by the mortgage lender said that they would think about applying for the home loan such as a capped mortgage through the internet.
Almost four-in-ten (39 per cent) said that they would go so far as to get a mortgage quote from a website - with the remaining 27 per cent saying that they would surf the web for research alone.
Commenting on the research, Yorkshires head of e-commerce, David Jackson, said: "We designed the survey to give us a greater understanding of what potential mortgage customers are looking for from a lender with an online facility.
"It is
important that we ensure that our online process meets customer expectations, particularly as so many respondents indicated that they are likely to consider applying for their mortgage online in the future."
Yorkshire Building Society was helped in its study by website yourmortgage.co.uk.
