Abbey: Brits need a financial workout - 08/01/2008
|
The vast majority of Britons require a 'financial workout', in order to get the best value for their money, Abbey said yesterday.
This statement followed research from the firm, which ranked financial habits in the UK on a scale of one-to-100.
Lower scores were indicative of greater levels of money-savvy behaviour - granted to consumers who shopped around for the best value mortgage, insurance and other financial products and saved for the future.
However, following a poll conducted by Abbey, just one per cent of Britons were found to show good 'financial fitness' by scoring under ten points.
Commenting on the 'financial fitness' study, Steve Shore at Abbey said: "The majority of the population could do with a financial workout.
"But with so many deals out there, it really neednt be strenuous!"
The average UK male score was 46 - with women scoring still lower at 41.
Abbey found that 31 per cent of 'financially overweight' women had not bothered to find a competitive mortgage - while 61 per cent of men lost the battle of the bulge by not having three months worth of savings.
