The number of British soldiers wanting life cover is on the increase. Members of the Armed Forces who are currently serving in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, who are taking out accident and life insurance, is on the rise according to industry experts.
It is believed this is an attempt by servicemen and women, to boost Ministry of Defence (MOD) compensation pay-outs should anything happen to them whilst on duty.
Conservative MP, Keith Simpson commented, “The question you have to ask is why do soldiers feel that what the Government offer as compensation is not enough. You also wonder what the premiums must be”
A leaked MOD report last year revealed that soldiers could end up paying nearly £1,000 a year for life insurance policies.
In response to the rise in servicemen and women wanting extra insurance, one company, Abacus, has started to offer a ‘free armed forces will' as well as kit cover, on top of their usual accident and life insurance policies for soldiers.
