Quit smoking and make a healthy saving - 12/03/2008

Smokers looking to kick the habit will be pleased to hear there is an added incentive for them in giving up in the form of insurance savings.
Norwich Union says that some smokers can slash their premiums if they stop smoking, with the potential life insurance savings representing a healthy saving.
With the insurer estimating that more than two million smokers planned to quit on National No Smoking Day this year, Norwich Union spokesperson Sarah Horner said that it was a good time to consider stubbing out the cigarettes.
"For certain people, a non-smoker can pay around half the premium as their smoker counterpart," she explained, adding that it would also depend on all aspects of a person's lifestyle.
"As any smoker or ex-smoker will know, giving up smoking can be an extremely hard thing to do, so it's perhaps unlikely life insurance savings will be the only reason to quit, but they can certainly be an added incentive."
Benenden Healthcare estimates that 14 per cent of smokers have given up since the smoking ban in July 2007.
