Life Insurance - Office workers 'snack on junk food' - 28/02/2008

Office workers are having a difficult time in leading a healthy lifestyle, life insurance provider Prudential have claimed.

The insurer found that 23.5 million employees are snacking on unhealthy foods from nine to five - 80 per cent of the entire workforce.

Desk-bound professionals were found to be worse offenders than tradesmen - 53 per cent of whom make their own sandwiches, along with the 12 per cent who snack on salads and sushi.

A majority of bankers and accountants, on the other hand, admitted to eating chocolate regularly at work.

Around 45 per cent of admin staff also said that they eat a high fat biscuit with their afternoon tea.

Manager at Prudential's health insurance arm Katie Roswell said: "It can be difficult to eat a balanced diet while at work, particularly if working hours are unpredictable or if you're pressed for time.

"Encouraging staff to take a balanced approach to healthy eating can have a positive impact on employees’ stress levels as well as their overall wellbeing."
