A woman has been found guilty of attempting to murder her husband and claim on his life insurance.
Kate Knight was found guilty of attempted murder at Stafford crown court yesterday, after adding antifreeze to her husband's food and wine at their seven year wedding anniversary celebration.
The cash-strapped 28-year-old, who had high loan and mortgage debts, tried to kill her husband Lee in 2005, in order to claim his £250,000 life insurance policy.
Mr Knight has been left deaf and blind from the poisoning.
Prosecution lawyer William Davis said: "She felt that her husbands life cover and a large payout from his employer would be the solution to her financial woes."
He added: "She tried to kill him by poisoning him and considered more than one way of doing so."
Following the guilty verdict, Mr Knight spoke out against his wife, who he said had ruined his life.
"I lost my job, my house, everything I worked for and, worst of all, my son - I have hardly any independence any more," he said in a statement.
Sentencing has yet to be set for Ms Knight.
