Life insurance provider Lloyds TSB warned victims of the summer's floods today of the threat posed to them by cowboy builders.
Almost matching the entire cost of flood clear-up predicted by the Association of British Insurers earlier this year, the life insurance provider said that botched building work on flood-damaged homes could cost householders £2 billion.
With this in mind, Lloyds TSB has issued advice to customers on how to beat the bogus builders.
Always using a professional builder, preferably by a friend's recommendation, and never employing a cold caller was advised by the company.
Managing director at Lloyds TSB Insurance Phil Loney said: "Its understandable that those affected by this summers flooding are eager to get the repairs to their home completed as quickly as possible, especially with Christmas just around the corner.
"But its equally important to ensure that the work is carried out safely and completed by qualified tradespeople."
According to the life insurance provider, cowboy builders cost homeowners £1.36 billion in repairs for their botched work in 2006.
