ABI releases guidelines on life insurance - 30/08/2007
|
New guidelines have been released by the Association for British Insurers (ABI), which are to affect life insurance policies in the UK.
The new initiative, launched yesterday, forms part of the ABI's drive to increase the proportion of successful protection cover claims.
Life insurance, critical illness insurance and income protection insurance are all covered by the announcement.
Director of general insurance and health at the ABI Nick Starling said: "This latest ABI initiative will help ensure that the UK uses world-class online and telephone processes to help people disclose all the relevant information about their medical history. This will help ensure that people who take out cover in this way can rely on their policy to pay out when the need arises."
"Protection insurance gives peace of mind to millions of individuals and families in the UK," Mr Starling added. "We want to ensure that people have full confidence in, and understanding of, the products available. Our latest guidance marks another positive step towards this goal."
Price comparison websites generally welcome increased use of online and phone insurance services, due to the increased flexibility and convenience which the customer is offered by them.
