Life insurance specialists LifeSearch has released a new five-point list of ways for customers to save on their life insurance premiums.
LifeSearch also pointed out that it is currently a "good time to buy" life insurance cover, as prices have dropped by ten per cent in the last year.
The primary piece of advice given is for customers to "shop around" for the best life insurance deal by using an "independent adviser".
LifeSearch adds: "An independent adviser can search the market whereas an agent tied to specific companies will only be able to sell a limited product range.
"Many people take out insurance with their bank or mortgage provider and this is often a mistake."
Switching life insurance provider, taking out life insurance at as young an age as possible, taking out Family Income Benefit and stopping smoking were also advised.
Matt Morris, LifeSearch Policy Adviser, said: This is just a guide and people must remember that cheaper is not always better.
"Even so, if you can save money and still get the right type of cover for your circumstances, it makes sense to take advantage of the opportunity."
