In what the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) saw as a massively high-profile incident of unfair trade practices American General, part of the American International Group turned down a congress woman's application for life insurance because she had future plans for international travel. "The office has warned American General in the past but they have refused to change their practices," the OIR said in a statement.
"We have just received the complaint filed by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. We take it seriously and are giving it immediate attention," AIG told the MIAMI division of Reuters.
American General Insurance said it would ‘cooperate fully' with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to make sure that it could continue to offer insurance to Florida's residents and that it was always its intention to comply with the act which it has been accused of breaking.
