What level of cover?

Before you take out a policy you need to decide what level of cover you want. Your circumstances will determine what level is cheapest and best for you. The two broad types of cover available are Annual Multi-Trip cover and Single Trip cover.  Generally speaking, if you make two or less trips a year than Single Trip cover is all you need. If you plan to make any more trips than you’ll need Annual Multi-Trip cover.  There are exceptions to this rule as depending on the country you visit the insurance may be more, for example:  For cover for more than one trip to the United States per year it is cheaper to opt for Annual Multi-Trip cover as the cost of insuring each trip is more expensive due to possible health care costs.
There are different specific policies that can save you money too, such as: Family insurance cover, which is generally cheaper than individually covering all your family members and a Europe only policy, which only covers you in Europe but can be extended. Top

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

European Union citizens, such as yourself, are entitled to free or discounted medical care when visiting another country in the European Union. Make sure you apply for a EHI card before you trip. This can cut the cost of your claims and is probably required by your insurer anyway. Top

Where are you going and what are you doing?

Where you go on holiday and what you plan to do there will greatly effect the cost of your cover. Certain nations carry with them extra risk, for example: crime, political turmoil or an unfriendly government. Picking a friendly and safe destination will cut down on your premium.
Having a once in a lifetime experience while on holiday is something everyone wants, but if those experiences are dangerous they will cost more to cover. Consider doing something safe over something risky and you will save money.
So, if you’re looking to save money on travel insurance then it might be best to go to a beech in Greece rather than sky dive over Iraq.Top
