Insurance - Online Purchasing On The Rise - 13/05/2008

  
 
  New figures have shown that more consumers are choosing to purchase insurance policy’s online rather than by traditional methods over the past year.

The internet site, comScore found that there was a 3% rise of customers using the online methods to access car insurance information compared to this time last year.

Kevin Levitt, vice president of comScore commented that these change in figures represent a potential long term change in the market.

“Purchasing with a local agent has historically been the dominant method by which people purchased auto insurance and while it still remains the primary method, these latest findings show us that the landscape is beginning to change, with more and more consumers turning from traditional, offline channels to the Internet.”

The study also went on to show that consumers heavily relied on the Internet to obtain information about auto insurance. Many consumers said they valued being able to receive a quote online and would not hesitate to purchase on policy via the internet in the future.
