Nationwide: Take out cover for floods - 28/01/2008
|
home insurance is storing up risks for the future, home insurance provider Nationwide has claimed.
According to the firm, buildings insurance is particularly important, with the recent spate of extreme weather hitting the UK.
Thousands also faced their properties being damaged due to the June and July floods which hit England last year - causing what the Association of British Insurers estimates is £3 billion-worth of damage.
Some householders are still staying in alternative accommodation, so severe has the flood damage been.
Campaigns manager for Nationwide Charlotte Sjoberg commented: "I think that people might think that it's really complicated to work out what they need for both building insurance and home content insurance.
"But what's really important for people to understand is that it's not complicated at all, and in fact, having building insurance in particular, is incredibly important as it covers things like a fire; vandalism; storms and floods."
She added: "Being without it is putting your home at real risk."
