Insurance - Luxury cars not protected by law - 16/11/2007

Authorities do not discriminate when it comes to driving without car insurance and will not hesitate to take your Lexus.

The driver of a Lexus was surprised when his vehicle was apprehended by police who stopped him for driving without insurance and was told he would face prosecution.

Plate recognition equipment scanned the man's information and found he did not have valid car insurance and further checks concluded the car was also on a hire purchase.

As a result of the incident, the car was repossessed by the company within an hour of the police intervention.

A Cheshire police officer said: "As a result of driving his car on Chehsire's roads, the driver faces prosecution for driving an uninsured vehicle and has lost the vehicle, with the value in excess of £11,000, back to the finance company."

The police officer warned drivers to make sure they obeyed laws on Cheshire roads so they would not follow in the footsteps of the "unfortunate Lexus driver".
