Bupa releases worrying report - 19/11/2007
|
Stress, tension and worry related to the workplace are having a big health impact, insurance firm Bupa said today. Sickness contributed to 36 million days being taken off in the UK last year - and more serious cases also have an impact on the life insurance and critical illness life insurance sectors.
Bupa's 2007 Worry Report shows that 50 per cent of Britons polled said that they worried more for their health and that of their family than for other common fears such as terrorist attacks and global warming.
This is an increase of six per cent over the 2006 total - and could signal that health is worsening along with health-related fears.
Assistant medical director at the firm Dr Peter Mace commented: "This report highlights that people who are overwhelmed by their worries can find it impossible to relax, often experiencing frequent sleepless nights, loss of appetite and a desire to drink more alcohol to help them switch off.
"This may have a profound impact on their health, exacerbating the problem further."
