Insurance - L&G tells homeowners to prepare for winter - 23/11/2007

Life insurance firm Legal & General (L&G) has advised UK homeowners to boost the safety and comfort of their homes by performing a "health check" on it.

With the Met Office predicting a cold and wet winter, home maintenance is an ever more pressing need, the life insurance provider pointed out.

Checking that the central heating system, pipes and tanks are all working properly, clearing drains and gutters and preparing an emergency kit in case of flooding were all recommended by the insurance provider.

Elaine Parkes, head of technical services at L&G’s general insurance business, said: "Homeowners need to take reasonable steps to safeguard their property and contents against loss or damage.

"This includes ensuring that their property is maintained in a good condition, so fixing any loose tiles on a roof or making sure flood prevention measures are in place, if appropriate." ."
