A new survey aims to help reduce the number of home insurance claims made, it has been revealed
As the weather continues to destroy homes and belongings, the survey, carried out by insurance provider, Legal & General, intend to discover the extent that homeowners go, or do not go, in order to protect their homes and contents.
The survey, called Safe as Houses, will look into the security and safety concerns of home owners and the precautions they may be taking.
While more homes are at risk due to poor flood defences, it is essential that homeowners living in flood risk areas ensure not only that their home insurance policy includes flooding, but that they take the appropriate measures to protect their homes.
According to homebuyersadvice.co.uk, less than one in five buyers check whether their new property is in a flood risk area, while a nearly 80 per cent of homeowners do not shop around for an insurance quote.
Head of technical services of Legal & General, Elaine Parkes, said it is “important to improve consumer awareness of home safety and security measures.”
