Up to 80% of cases in which an individual is affected by a noisy neighbour go unreported as the person on the receiving end is often to afraid to report it, according to Direct Line insurance.
Direct Line insurance state that 10% of homeowners suffer from the experience of constant noise being made by their neighbours, but generally most cases are not dealt with due to fear of revenge and no knowledge of their legal rights.
Liverpool was highlighted as the worst offending area for this sort of antisocial behaviour, with loud music accounting for 65% of the blame, as well as 47% down to arguing and shouting in addition to 35% being dogs barking. These are the most common causes that are experienced on a national scale.
Andrew Lowe: Direct Line’s Head of Home Insurance said “homeowners feel that they have nowhere to turn and are not reporting these kinds of incidents to the police or local authority.”
