Home Insurance - Homeowners told to check insurance as kids prepare to party - 20/08/2008

Hundreds of thousands of high school and A level grandaunts in the UK will be getting set to celebrate their results with parties.

And many parents would, in a bid to ensure their young children are closely monitored, prefer the parties are held in the homes.

This could also have a potential risk as it could lead to accidental damage and other mishaps in the home.

Experts are, against this backdrop, calling on households to check their home insurance to make sure they are adequately covered against such eventualities.

“It is when strangers enter your home that insurance could become an issue,” warned Fairinvestment.co.uk.

It warned further that whereas it is taken for granted that accidental damage is usually covered by home insurance policies, it could be viewed differently in the case of malicious damage or any damage not caused by members of the household.

This, Fairinvestment.co.uk said, could result in the insurance policy not being able to cover for such damage.

Spokesperson Rachel Stiles added: “If, for example your child’s party gets out of hand and your property and its contents are damaged, there are no guarantees that the insurance will pay out.”
