A reformed criminal, has advised home owners to ensure that their properies are kept safe from possible burglary attacks.
Michael Fraser, a reformed criminal speaking on behalf of security firm Alert Me, explained that burglars are more likely to opt for a property that is easy to get into, meaning those living in such houses could lose everything if they do not have home insurance.
He said: "You look at the windows and if you can't see window locks, visually see them, and there's only one lock on the front door ... and a broken gate, all these things are what the opportunist looks for, because he is looking for a weak point on the property."
Householders should make sure their property is secure in order to reduce the chances of a burglary and subsequent home insurance claim, one expert has warned.
Mr Fraser also added: "Pets could also pose a risk as people who have these are not likely to be making use of an alarm system.".
Earlier this month, Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance for Direct Line, reiterated on the point that, people who are planning to undertake major DIY projects within their homes, should make sure that they inform their policy provider first.
