Halifax: 10m Brits play music regularly - 20/02/2008
|
Musical Brits recorded the equivalent of 300,000 albums worth of music at home last year, new figures from Halifax show.
According to the home insurance provider, playing a musical instrument takes centre stage in the leisure time of 9.7 million people.
What's more, almost eight million homes were found by the home insurance firm to contain a musical instrument.
Musical equipment worth £6.8 billion - including many home studios - was found to be currently stored at home.
Commenting on the findings, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance Martyn Foulds said: "It's clear that many as yet undiscovered musicians are making, and even recording, music in their own homes."
The insurance expert also suggested that Britons should make sure that their expensive musical equipment is covered by their home insurance.
"Although musical instruments and recording equipment have undoubtedly become more affordable, theyre still not items that can be easily replaced if the unthinkable happens," Mr Foulds added.
