Insurer offers Christmas advice - 11/12/2007
|
Over-50s home insurance provider RIAS has warned of the higher risk of festive thefts over the Christmas period.
The amount of gadgets, designer clothes and other expensive gifts typically stashed in many properties at this time of year makes domestic burglary a particular temptation for thieves.
RIAS also pointed out that a lack of adequate home contents insurance provision among many householders is making the situation still worse - with policyholders failing to take into account the enhanced value of the goods held at their properties.
Managing director at the home insurance provider Janet Connor said: "The threat of burglary along with the potential for accidental damage during the Christmas period cannot be ignored.
"But unlike motor insurance, people seem less inclined to review their household contents insurance on a regular basis."
Along with issuing the home contents warning, RIAS has also given customers some top tips to beat the burglars and protect their policies.
Keeping presents well out of view from the street, taking photographs of expensive gifts with their serial numbers showing and locking all doors and windows when leaving the house all came recommended by the home insurance provider.
